5160 Spring steel Mechanical Properties:

High strength, plasticity and toughness, good hardenability, overheating sensitivity than low manganese steel, high than silicon manganese steel, decarburization tend to be smaller than silicon manganese steel, the temper brittleness.

Tensile strength of sigma b (MPa) : 1225 (125) or higher.

Conditions to yield strength sigma (MPa) : 0.2 or greater, 1078 (110).

Elongation delta (%) : 9 or more (for reference).

Reduction of area bits (%) : 20 or more.

  • 5160 Spring steel introduction:

    Alloy steels are designated by AISI four-digit numbers. They are more responsive to heat and mechanical treatments than carbon steels. They comprise various types of steels having compositions which exceed the limitations of Va, Cr, Si, Ni, Mo, C and B in the carbon steels.

  • 5160 Spring steel Heat Treatment:

    generally hardened using oil. This steel is quenched at 829°C (1525°F) and tempered at temperatures ranging from 427 and 704°C (800 and 1300°F).

    ANNEALING

    annealed at 788°C (1450°F) and then air cooled.

    HARDENING

    Hot rolled, 321 hb or less; Cold drawn + heat treatment, 321 hb or less

    TEMPERING

    Tempering 460 ~ 520 ℃.

  • 5160 steel Applications:

    Used for heavy vehicles, tractors, industrial production load, stress the larger plate spring and larger diameter coil spring.
